Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
With nearly 70,000 members, the Academy is the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. AND’s commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives brings the Association into the forefront of several critical health areas facing all Americans.

Nutrition.gov
Nutrition.gov is a new federal resource that provides easy access to all online federal government information on nutrition. This national resource makes obtaining government information on nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, and food safety, easily accessible in one place. Providing accurate scientific information on nutrition and dietary guidance is critical to the public’s ability to make the right choices in the effort to curb obesity and other food related diseases.

Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
The Academy is the state’s largest organization of nutrition professionals. GAND provides professional development, service, and leadership opportunities to its 2000+ members. GAND is divided into 8 districts: Greater Atlanta (GADA), Augusta, Coastal Empire, Columbus, Mid-Georgia, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest. Members of the Academy are automatically members of GAND.

Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians
The Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians is a six member board appointed by the Governor to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. The Board meets every other month to regulate the activities of persons engaged in dietetic practice. The board regulates the integration and application of principles derived from the sciences of nutrition, biochemistry, food, and physiology to achieve and maintain client health.

Georgia Department of Human Resources
The Georgia Department of Human Resources touches the lives of all Georgians by providing more than 100 programs that ensure their health and welfare. These include programs that prevent and control the spread of disease, assess the health status of the population, and establish and implement sound public health policy. The Department includes the Division of Public Health that incorporates areas such as nutrition and maternal and child health.

Georgia Department of Education
The Georgia Department of Education functions as a service-oriented agency that meets the needs of local school systems as they prepare students for college or a career. The Department houses the School and Community Nutrition Program that provides recourses that contribute to the nutritional well-being of Georgians and their performance at work and school.

Georgia Department of Community Health
Created in 1999, the Department of Community Health is the lead planning agency for all health issues in the state such as health care policy, purchasing and regulation. The department is responsible for:

– Insuring nearly 2 million people;
– Maximizing the state’s health care purchasing power;
– Planning coverage for uninsured Georgians;
– Coordinating health planning for state agencies.
